What is CoQ10? The Benefits to Skin & Weight Loss

CoQ10, also known as ubiquinone or coenzyme Q, is an enzyme produced naturally in the human body, found in every cell and tissue. It is involved a number of biological functions including helping to produce energy, neutralizing free radicals, and keeping cells both inside the body and in the skin healthy.

A young body has the ability to produce as much CoQ10 as it needs. However, various factors such as aging and stress can lower levels of CoQ10. As a result, the ability of cells to regenerate and withstand stress declines.

Because CoQ10 decline correlates with the aging process, it is regarded as one of the most accurate biomarkers of aging.

CoQ10 Treatments

There are several important roles CoQ10 plays in your body. CoQ10 is vital for many chemical reactions in cells; in fact, it helps produce 95% of your body’s energy. Without these types of biochemical reactions, your cells would be unable to grow and divide.

Many doctors and researchers also believe this particular enzyme can help treat many illnesses and aid in weight loss. There is a great deal research being conducted on how CoQ10 can help find future treatments for a variety of ailments. There is already evidence that suggests CoQ10 can be used to treat:

  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Heart Disease
  • Cancer
  • High Blood Pressure

Using CoQ10 to benefit your skin

In addition to its internal benefits, CoQ10 can also play a role in making skin look younger. CoQ10 levels decrease as you get older. Indeed, most women over thirty have below optimum levels of CoQ10 in the skin. The lack of CoQ10 results in an impeded ability to produce collagen and elastin. Collagen is important because it makes your skin firm, while elastin gives your skin flexibility. The loss of collagen and elastin causes your skin to wrinkle and sag.

CoQ10 also helps the skin by acting as a strong antioxidant. It helps to neutralize the harmful free radicals that are one of the major causes of aging. Thus, the age-related decline in CoQ10 also your skin is more prone to damage by free radicals.

Using topical anti-aging creams that contain CoQ10 can effectively help fight the signs of aging. The CoQ10 in the treatment can penetrate deeply to provide antioxidants and help create collagen and elastin.

Using CoQ10 to aid in weight loss

salmonAs you age, just as your skin changes, your whole body changes as well. You may start to find both fine lines and wrinkles on your skin and extra pounds on your body. The lack of CoQ10 can play a role not only your skin condition, but in your weight as well.

Since CoQ10 assists in the production of energy by the cells, a deficiency can contribute to lower energy levels and a slower metabolism. Many people believe that CoQ10 production decreasing with age helps explains one reason why older people may find it harder to lose weight.

Research even shows that an insufficient amount of CoQ10 is a contributing factor in some cases of obesity. Recent tests have found a CoQ10 deficiency in some of the obese subjects. When these subjects with low CoQ10 levels were given CoQ10 supplements, they were found to have an easier time losing some of the extra pounds.

The Perricone MD Nutriceuticals

Taking CoQ10 supplements can also help boost skin repair and reduce free radical damage. Like topical treatments, supplements can increase CoQ10 levels in the skin that help maintain collagen and elastin production and protect of your skin from aging. Research has even shown that CoQ10 helps reduce crow’s feet around the eyes.

Eating foods that contain CoQ10 and taking CoQ10 supplements can help maintain the level of the enzyme your body needs to stay healthy. Some of the foods that contain CoQ10 include fish, organ meats (liver and kidney), and chicken.

The Perricone Health & Weight Management supplement contains several supplements including CoQ10 that promotes total body health, weight loss, and youthful skin. 16. I am in my mid 30′s and in the past 2 years I have seen a decrease in my skins vitality. Lack of energy has shown it’s self in that time as well. I was at least 50 lbs over weight after having my 3rd child and couldn’t loose the weight from 5 yrs after. I changed my diet, activity and sleeping habits. I started to see the results with some weight loss after the 5th yr. I tried so many products and vitamins for wrinkles and saw little or no results.I started taking supplements for CoQ10 and over the counter lotions after reading some of the research available. I have seen some results, but not sure the quantity or quality of them. I would be very interested in becoming a tester for Perricone to evaluate the benefits available from this line.

  37. There have been clinical studies on the benefits of coQ10 aiding in the promotion of healthy gums-which makes sense because the health of the gums has been linked to the overall health of the body, and plague build up on the gums can actually end up in the arteries. The bodies health- from the skin- to the gums- to the internal organs are all connected and it looks like CoQ10 could be a promising supplement with anti-aging benefits inside and out.

  46. Hi All. That supplement sounds like very important to take with all those ingredients.

It looks like CoQ10 shows more benefits by the day. It is been reported that it may play a role in cancer prevention.

The only problem is that doctors in real life are way behind this news and they don’t recommend it as much as they should.
