Skin Conformer: Simple Steps to Healthy Skin Harmony

Navigating all the specialty products marketed to every skin type and condition can even make basic skin care confusing. From serums to peels to creams, your skin care product options may seem endless. However, the important parts of a skin care routine are actually straightforward.

The only three essential steps are:

  1. Cleaning
  2. Hydrating
  3. Protecting your skin from the sun

Once you’ve got those basics covered, you can begin to focus on products to treat your more advanced skin concerns. Read on to learn more about these essential steps and advanced products for advanced care.

Gentle Facial Cleansing

The first step in any skin care routine is cleansing both morning and night. This step removes the daily buildup of dirt, oil, and makeup. Although clean skin is necessary, washing too frequently or using an unnecessarily harsh cleanser tends to cause dryness, even for oily skin. Scrubbing until your skin is dry or rough does more harm than good. Picking a gentle, yet effective cleanser like the Perricone MD Citrus Facial Wash is the key.

The Importance of Moisturizer

citrusOnce your skin is clean, apply a moisturizer to smooth and protect skin while adding a healthy dose of hydration. Whether you have dry, oily, or normal skin, daily moisturizer helps stop dryness and flaking. Moisturizers smooth rough spots and help give an even-looking complexion. Many advanced moisturizers do more than just hydrate your skin. Some provide sun protection, vitamins and antioxidants, or ingredients that reduce appearance of wrinkles.

Even though all skin needs moisture, not every skin type needs the same amount of hydration. While Dr. Perricone’s Face Finishing Moisturizer is a great product for normal skin, the Skin Clear Hydrator is a better choice for treating adult acne or oily skin. Both contain DMAE which works as a conformer to fight fine lines and lift, tone, and tighten the skin. The phospholipids in the Intensive Moisture Therapy provide the additional richness dry, fragile skin needs.

If your moisturizer does not include UV protection, you should use a separate sunscreen. Sunscreen is necessary for reducing the sun damage that is a major cause of lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. Make sure the product you choose is at least SPF 15 and provides both UVA and UVB protection.

Advanced Products for Advanced Care

When you’re sure your routine is keeping your skin clean, moisturized, and protected, you can begin to choose products that treat your specific skin care concerns. Lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, lack of firmness and elasticity, and uneven pigmentation are all conditions that advanced skin care science can treat.

Dr. Perricone’s line of cosmeceutical skin care includes ingredients to treat all these conditions. Among them is alpha lipoic acid, a powerful antioxidant that promotes healthy cell function to refine skin texture and pores. Pycnogenol, another potent antioxidant, firms skin and fights the appearance of wrinkles. Highly advanced conformer treatments with neuropeptides activate surface renewal to improve the look of even deep lines.

Following these simple skin care steps, your skin will be clean, healthy, and protected from harmful UVA and UVB rays. After the basics are met, more advanced skin care products can help reduce the signs of wrinkles, lines, and uneven pigmentation.

  1. This is truly a fabulous tietnd moisturizer and I consider myself an expert having tried nearly them all. I prefer Laura Mercier’s tietnd moisturizer in the summer when I want something lighter on my skin. But for all other seasons, i want something that makes me look more finished. This CD product leaves a really velvet, almost-matte-but-with a-glow finish that is spectacular. I have fair, dry skin and a little melasma and it covers it beautifully. People always ask me about my skin and how it glows Which is fabulous considering I am almost 43! Of course, don’t count on the spf as your sun protection, layer something under and even add some SPF mineral powder on top. I was at the drug store the other day, and picked up CoverGirl’s Natureluxe which, for a drugstore brand, is quite impressive for people on a budget, FYI And your blog is fabulous, btw!

  3. I just started using Perricone products. I am blown away. I am a 50 year old aesthetician who has used many of the high end products. I have always taken care of my skin. Most people think Im 10 yrs younger than I am. Dr Perricone has taken my skin to a whole new level. I am working on using the entire product line which I think is very important. The products are made to work together.

  4. I feel like cleansing does dry out my skin, its a cycle of washing all the moisture out of my face then trying my hardest to find a moisturizer that will re hydrate my skin and not clog or cause some other problem.
