Three Steps for Refining Pores
From homemade masks to laser treatments, there are hundreds of ways to try to clean, tighten, and refine pores. However, not all these methods are equally effective. There are a few widely accepted and simple steps to take in order to minimize the appearance of pores.
Perricone MD’s skin care line utilizes active ingredients and skin friendly formulas to clean out pores while improving the tone and texture of your skin. Cleanse, tone, and renew are the three key steps to beautifully refined pores without unnecessary hassle or irritation.
This article will discuss:
Step One: Cleanse
As dirt, oil, and dead skin cells build up on the skin, they can clog and, over time, stretch out the pores. Therefore, the first step to keeping pores looking small is to keep them clean. However, it is equally important not to over-cleanse the skin. When you over-wash you face, it removes too much protective oil and moisture from the skin.
Over time, this can make skin oilier because it begins to produce more oil to overcompensate for what it loses every time it is washed. Washing once or twice a day with a gentle cleanser is enough to keep pores clean and unclogged while also maintaining the natural oil levels that keep skin lubricated.
Try this: Dr. Perricone’s Citrus Facial Wash. It’s formulated to remove impurities without drying the skin. It contains DMAE and Vitamin C ester, ingredients that can help make your skin smoother and brighter as you wash.
Step Two: Tone
Toner removes the final traces of dirt and makeup and, and with the right active ingredients, can also help to firm skin and add elasticity. Increasing pores’ elasticity allows them to better maintain their natural shape even when faced with dirt and oil buildup. When skin is firmer and more elastic, it allows pores stay their smallest and rebound from previous damage.
Try this: Dr. Perricone’s Face Firming Toner or Skin Clear Toner.
Key ingredients like Salicylic Acid, DMAE, and Alpha Lipoic Acid work to:
- Tighten skin
- Reduce lines and wrinkles
- Make skin more elastic and minimize pores
- Refine skin texture
- Reduce puffiness and pore size
- Even skin tone
Step Three: Renew
The last step to minimizing the appearance of pores is to renew skin. This can be achieved by using a product that boosts skin’s overall health and makes it smoother, firmer, and more youthful. Using a product that rejuvenates the skin not only improves the skin’s total appearance, it also works to keep skin cells healthy. This helps pores remain clean and minimizes their look.
Try this: Dr. Perricone’s Advanced face skin firming. DMAE tightens and firms the skin, Alpha Lipoic Acid protects cells and reduces inflammation and pore size, and sodium hyaluronate hydrates. The active ingredients in this product also work to balance the amount of oil produced by the skin, helping pores to become tighter and less noticeable.
Or this: Dr. Perricone’s Ceramic Skin Smoother, the Perricone acne product that moisturizes the skin while creating an instantly smoother appearance by filling in enlarged pores, lines, and wrinkles with microspheres.

Makeup tips to minimize pore appearance
After cleansing, toning, and renewing in the morning, your next step may be putting on makeup to get ready for the day. If so, there are some a few tips to keep in mind when applying makeup to make pores appear even smaller.
- In order to smooth the surface of the skin and keep makeup from seeping into pores and making them appear larger, use a foundation primer. Primers create a barrier between makeup and the skin, allow makeup to go on more easily, and last longer.
- Use a water-based, oil-free foundation (like No Foundation Foundation), which is light on the skin and won’t contribute to clogged pores. Use foundation sparingly; using too much can cake up in pores and call attention them.
- Dust with a small amount of powder to finish.
- Apply the rest of your makeup as usual.

I have very oily skin on my face. I have always fought against my large pores. I don’t have acne, but it feels to me like I have small craters all over my face because of my pores. I’ve tried pore tighteners, and all sorts of things including special makeup. I really need something that works.
As I get older I found that my skin has been changing. I see that my pores are now getting bigger in my t zone and they never were before. This product seems like it may do the trick
I live in Wisconsin where you never know what the weather brings until you wake up in the morning. I am turning 46 this year with wondering what happened to my 21 year old complexion. I never saw my pores before until one morning I woke up and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I guess as we get older our pores get bigger. And this sounds like it will make them small again. These are great deals and products that Dr. Perricone is offering to us and I would love to become a tester of the Dr.’s products and give feedback that I am sure is going to be positive. Thank you for your time and consideration.
