Lip Enhancement Treatments

If you weren’t born with full lips, or if your lips have lost volume and definition due to age, there are several kinds of lip enhancement treatments available. When it comes to making lips more lush, most people think of injections or surgery. But as you hopefully know, surgery is not the only path to fuller lips. There are pain-free alternatives to enhance your lips that can give effective, beautiful results.

Types of Lip Injections

Collagen Injections

Before undergoing the lip injection procedure, your dermatologist or plastic surgeon determines where exactly to apply the collagen by examining your face and lips. Then the collagen, which comes from cow skin, is injected into the lips. You will likely feel discomfort during the injection process, and you may experience some swelling and bruising. The entire injection procedure takes about 10 to 35 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated.

This method of lip augmentation generally lasts between one and four months. The swelling and bruising side effects last between three days and a week.

After the procedure, you should be on alert for infections or allergic reactions.

Fat Injections

Fat injections can also be called fat grafting or fat transfer. This procedure uses fat taken from the abdomen or thighs and injected into the lips. Thus, the process involves not just the pain of injections to your lips, but also bodily recovery from the fat removal.

Another downside of this method of lip enhancement treatment is that fat injections can cause lumping and scarring. Since fat grafting has permanent results for half the people who try it, the lumping and scarring can potentially last forever.

Autologen Injections

Autologen is made from the collagen in your own skin. It can be derived from the excess skin removed in a face lift or taken from your hip. Although this injection carries no risk of an allergic reaction, it is comparatively expensive and tends not to last very long.

Surgical Lip Procedures

AlloDerm

This is the most popular substance for lip augmentation. It is derived from purified donor tissue from cadavers. The patient is put under local anesthesia, and the AlloDerm is inserted through a tiny incision inside the mouth.

This method costs approximately $1,500-$3,000 and lasts from six months to a year until the substance is absorbed into the body.

Synthetic Implants

These types of implants include Gore-Tex, SoftForm, and soft ePTFE. The benefit of synthetic implants is that they do not shrink and cannot be absorbed into the body. They’re held in place by the scar tissue that forms around the implant.

Unfortunately, because the implant is a foreign material, it may become infected and can be rejected by the body. If the implants need to be removed, you are forced to invest more money into surgery.

Local Flap Grafts

The procedure involves making incisions into the pink tissue inside the mouth. This tissue is detached and rolled up and into the lips. There is a recovery period after the surgery that requires pain medication and involves three to seven days of bruising.

Patients should avoid exercising for two to three days. They may encounter swelling, numbness, and drooling for up to two weeks. Some report their lips feel unnaturally stiff for as long as three months.

Both lip injections and surgery can be very costly. The procedures must be repeated every three to six months, so both expenses and painful recovery time add up.

Also, the more lip enhancement procedures that are done, the more you put yourself at risk for complications. However, you an avoid the risks by choosing nonsurgical alternatives.

Pain-Free Lip Enhancement

If you prefer to avoid the cost and discomfort of medical lip enhancement treatments, there are alternatives that do not involve injections, surgery, or pain.

Lip plumpers are the most common alternative. Most lip plumpers contain harsh ingredients like cinnamon oil to irritate the lips and increase blood flow, making them temporarily appear plumper.

The NV Perricone Lip Plumper works differently. It not only helps enhance the plumpness of your lips, but also aids in reducing the fine lines and wrinkles around the lip region.

This lip plumper contains:

  • DMAE to aid in improving lip contour
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid to:
    • Help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
    • Provide antioxidant protection

The special ingredients and lack of irritants in the Perricone Lip Plumper separate it from other lip plumpers on the market. The Perricone Lip Plumper has the ability to help enhance fullness and contour. Other plumping products give a temporary boost, but don’t make lips more beautiful by smoothing the appearance of fine lines.

This video will show you more about Perricone’s specialized products:

For much less than the cost of surgery, this lip product helps maintain full, youthful, healthy lips. The entire mouth area appears smoother and fuller by fighting the lined, deflated look of aged lips with no pain or recovery period.

Unlike surgery and injections, the lip plumper is a non-invasive, risk-free product that can help you have more beautiful lips without extreme procedures or the fear of undesired results.
