Keeping Your Delicate Eye Area Healthy

Your most sensitive skin is the area located around your eyes. The skin under the eyes is seven times thinner than the rest of the skin on your face, in fact. As you age, lack of sebaceous glands causes the under eye area to be extremely dry.

Meanwhile, having a healthy, youthful eye area is important, because most people look at your eyes more than anywhere else on your face.

Although this skin is easily susceptible to wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, and crow’s feet with time, maintaining an eye area that looks and feels younger is possible.

This article will discuss:

Reducing Under Eye Area Wrinkles

The first place wrinkles form as you age is the under eye area. Under eye wrinkles make you look old and tired. Your repetitive eye motions are one of the reasons wrinkles form so easily. There are easy steps to prevent wrinkles and look young.

To reduce the appearance of under eye area wrinkles:

  • Sleep at least 8 hours a day
  • Drink plenty of water daily
  • Protect with sunscreen before sun contact
  • Sleep with a humidifier

Reducing Under Eye Area Bags

Some people can’t help but get dark bags under their eyes. Some bags, for example, are due to genetics or allergies.

Some steps you can take to remove eye bags include:

  • Sleeping 8 hours a day and staying hydrated prevents not only dark bags, but wrinkles, too.
  • A healthy, balanced diet full of vegetables will also lessen the darkness under your eyes.
  • Vitamin K cream helps relieve puffy eyes and bags.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes and smoking.

Reversing Wrinkles and Bags

Dr. Perricone has created an extensive line of skin care products formulated for younger, healthier skin. Most of the anti-aging products’ ingredients work to dramatically reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Perricone’s Ceramic Eye Smoother should be applied every morning to see wrinkles vanish quickly, and leave you with smooth skin. One of the key ingredients in this cream is DMAE, dimethylamonioethanol, which provides instant, long lasting results to fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area. DMAE firms and tones the eye area, enhances facial contours, and helps strengthen other antioxidant therapies. Other ingredients, Beta Glucans and Xylitol, attract moisture while safely binding it to the dry skin.

Another Perricone product designed for the problem eye area is Perricone’s Advanced Eye Area Therapy, which can be used in the morning and evening. DMAE is a key ingredient in the Advanced Eye Area Therapy, too, along with Alpha Lipoic Acid.

The antioxidant, Alpha Lipoic Acid, works to:

  • Protect the cell
  • Diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration
  • Smooth skin texture
  • Reduce pores

Vitamin C Ester, another powerful antioxidant found in Advanced Eye Area Therapy, diminishes fine lines and discoloration, while leaving skin with a radiant glow.

The key to looking younger starts with a younger appearing eye area. Adequate sleep and staying hydrated can minimize fine lines and wrinkles. For even faster results, try some of Dr. Perricone’s products, specially formulated for the eye area.

  6. A couple of years ago my young daughter and I survived a serious car accident, after having to start taking many prescription medications, hospital visits and surgeries, my skin looks horrible. The stress of loosing all and the still on going fight with the insurance company has not helped. Im in my early 40′s before the accident no-one believed how old I was, they all said I appeared to be in my late 20′s… now I look in the mirror and my eyes and face have aged so drastically i hardly reconize myself.I have tried fillers , creams, etc nothing seems to help. I would love to find a product that acually works.

  7. Like Glory, I find it all confusing- what works, what doesnt! Being over 45 women are so pressured to look younger! You look in the mirror expecting to see how you feel and an old lady is looking back at ya! I would love to sample any/all of your products- I have tried a few but not yours yet.

  9. Wrinkle Cure.Great book to teach what to do and not do. I learned so much from it. People always ask how I keep looking so much younger than my 60 years. I take really good care of my skin. I am however now suffering with drooping eyelids. I do not want to have surgery and wonder if you have a product that will address this issue. I am waiting for a delivery from QVC on your product samplers. Can’t wait to get them. I only use products that are suggested by a dermatologist, like yourself. Thank’s for your work & books.

  10. I am especially concerned with wrinkles, bags, puffiness and dark circles around the eye area. My eyelids also show signs of drooping prior to morning applications of moisturizer. I’d like to see results with minimal products as any product can leak into the eye and cause irritation. The use of many products can also be confusing. Is there any product that actually reduces and repairs the thinning of skin around the eye area?
