Astaxanthin: A Super Supplement

A Short Astaxanthin Abstract

Astaxanthin comes from the microalgae haematococcus pluvialis, which can be found in large quantities in arctic marine environments. It is a natural carotenoid; superior in properties compared to other carotenoid family members.

Astaxanthin can neutralize harmful free radicals more efficiently and quickly.

Simply put, it protects cell membrane components from oxidative stress and inflammation.

Astaxanthin is a beneficial anti-inflammatory, because it helps protect muscles as well as increase physical endurance. Astaxanthin is ideal for those seeking to begin and uphold regular exercise within their daily schedule.

Dosage Recommendation for Astaxanthin

For adults (age 18 and up), the recommended astaxanthin dosage is usually about 2-4 milligrams per day. However, it is important to check the potency and purity of your astaxanthin supplements before use.

Currently, there is not enough scientific research available in order to recommend an astaxanthin dosage for children.

Astaxanthin: A Super Supplement

A multitude of seafood contains astaxanthin. For example, a typical serving portion of 4 ounces of Atlantic salmon contains 0.5-1.1 milligrams of astaxanthin.

In general, following a diet rich in seafood will help you incorporate this valuable antioxidant into your diet; however, adding an astaxanthin supplement to your daily routine is a guaranteed way to make sure you are getting enough.

Perricone MD Skin and Total Body Supplements
contain 2 milligrams of astaxanthin in each packet. Since astaxanthin is such an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, it is considered a super supplement within the Perricone dietary program.

  1. Considering that as one ages, the calories ingested all have to count. . .with the average diet, supplements make good sense. Better to take a proactive approach, rather than reactive. . .I’ve been an advocate for the Perricone Diet and believe it is one of the best approaches on the market. Thank you for all your valuable information.

  2. I have been going to numerous specialists and going through numerous tests and so far the only answer I get is “we don’t know what it is but we are getting closer to what it isn’t”! It’s been 2 years and I am still having problems with joints and inflammation and terrible problems with my feet. I am going to be 51 in October, I work the night shift and therefore don’t eat on a normal schedule, my job requires me to sit at a desk 12 hours a night, I do get up a walk around etc. This all seemed to coincide with joining a gym and going on weightwatchers 2 years ago!! It came on suddenly and is not going away in the least in fact somethings are getting worse! I have gained 65lbs mainly due to numerous courses of prednisone. I need HELP and someone who will look, listen and help me find answers I AM AT MY WITS END. I even considered the lap band but was told I should wait until we get the inflammation under control first. So what do I do wait until I get so fat I can’t move at all? On top of all this dieting is difficult because I am allergic to coconut, shellfish, and some soy products. I just want to be healthy and pain free enough to enjoy my 4 year old grand daughter! PLEASE HELP!!

  3. Astaxanthin amazing supplement because it crosses blood brain barrier . Great antioxidant for the brain and eyes.
Anti inflammatory for the brain could then theoretically modulate mood!

  12. I started using Astaxanthin on a daily basis a few months ago – I monitor my blood pressure, and currently take an extremely low dose of medication for hypertension. I have noticed a decrease in my BP readings recently. Not sure if related to the Astaxanthin. Also have history of a melanoma, also renal cell carcinoma, both of which were in situ and are now gone. Comments?

  16. yes astaxanthin is the best anti-inflammatory. I have a lot of inflamation and it helps me so much. I take the fortifeye focus the company I work for with the omega-3 a triglyceride form fish oil that is pure and safe. if you take fish oil open 2 of them and put the liquid of them in a styrophome cup and see what happens. if it eats the cup it has lots of ethenol and its better off in your gas tank. meaning is a good fish oil and the astaxanthin and you will feel new. you can read my story on http://www.drmichaellange.com under meet arlene. Fortifeye saved me the fish oil, the vitamin with no vitamin A or bete C., and the focus with 6mg of astaxanthin. I can drive at night now, its a sunblock you cant get burnt, takes away acne and fine lines and wrinkles, helps with blood flow threw the body great for diabetics, and takes my pain of ostio arthritus completely away. I didnt even know I had it until we went on a back order and I found out then we got it in stock and with in 3 days my hips were fine. check it out! seems like its for eyes and it is but also total body and I mean when you take fortifeye you feel so good! check it out!! :))) I have IC, fybro, auto immune form of lupas, my face looked like hamburger meat now like a babies but, I have ostio arthritus and I am 30 years old, I had lost most my hair and its all back now for a side effect of asta is hair growth!! and weight loss its really great!! and I trust fortifeye for Dr. lange give the perfect dose to much can be bad so 6mg I take of the asta. and Im a new person. and it works wonders with the fish oil the PURE fish oil! but it will battle your arthritus alright it will knock it in the dirt :)

  17. I’ve just spent the last hour researching astaxanthin which was mentioned on Dr. Oz last month. Saw your link as was curious.
I am 62 and have used various Perricone products in the past 7 years. People tell me so often that I have beautiful skin. They stare while speaking to me! I’m convinced that these products are the cause. I wash with Dove soap and use whatever product, one at a time, that appeals to me. I had tried lots of products, many giving me shades of the acne I was plagued with in my youth, but not your product! Bravo! I’d love to be a tester as I have a lifetime of exercise and healthful eating to my credit. An energy booster is a plus.
