Combating Crepey Skin

While fruit-filled crepes may be delicious-looking, crepey skin is not.

Crepey, or waffley skin is loose wrinkled skin characterized by skin surface sagging reminiscent of thin pancake-like crepes.

This article will discuss:

The Causes and Effects of Crepey Skin

Crepey skin is caused by a variety of factors that include:

  • Gravity
  • Decrease in the production of collagen and elastin molecules
  • Sun damage
  • Environmental factors
  • Smoking
  • Rapid and extreme weight loss
  • Dehydration in the skin

The undesirable effects of crepey skin include:

  • Sagging skin
  • Deep lines and wrinkles
  • Loose folds of skin
  • Crinkly texture to the skin
  • Lack of radiance

Crepey skin symptoms can be found in the face, around the eyes, and on the neck.

Solutions for Crepey Skin

Despite the fact that many of the causes of crepey skin can’t be avoided, their effects can be remedied. Dr. Perricone offers several products that can help your skin regain firmness and improve its texture.

Some of the topical treatments offered by Dr. Perricone that address crepey skin symptoms include:

  • Neuropeptide Facial Conformer
  • High Potency Eye Lift
  • Firming Neck Therapy
  • Cold Plasma

These treatments work to combat the appearance of crepiness in the skin.

Neuropeptide Facial Conformer

This topical cream rehydrates and re-energizes your skin through the power of neuropeptides. It helps to smooth out the lines and wrinkles associated with crepey skin as well as increase skin firmness.

High Potency Eye Lift

The crepey skin around the eye can be lessened with this intensive eye lift cream. It lifts the skin around the eyes to minimize wrinkles and puffiness. The High Potency Eye Lift utilizes Pycnogenol to help renew collagen and elasticity to tighten and tone skin around the eye which can reverse the effects of crepey skin.

Firming Neck Therapy

The presence of crepey on the neck can be reduced through the Palmitoyl Carnosine, Phospholipids, and Tocotrienols found in the Firming Neck Therapy cream. This formula helps to tone, tighten, and improve elasticity. It also can smooth the neck creases characteristic of crepey skin.

Cold Plasma
Cold Plasma is a universal skin care product that uses a biochemical individual system that acts on your individual needs. It provides nutrients to your skin cells and combats signs of aging including fine lines and wrinkles, firmness and elasticity.

  1. I have read your articles about crepey skin on face and neck, but there is no mention of upper arms. This is the only place I have it and I don’t know why. What would be the best solutions to combat the crepey skin in this area?

  2. [...] The result?  Dreaded crepey skin! [...]

  3. Dr. Perricone,
I recently purchased your cold plasma and high potency face lift through an infomercial. I was wondering if you have any recommendations/products/solutions for crepey skin on the arms. I am in my mid 50′s with a lot of sun damaged skin from my past.
    Please respond. Thanks.

  4. I am 66 and have told I look much younger but when I look at my arms and hands, they look like 86! I’ve had a skin condition, DSAP, which occurs due to sun damage. I never had a problem before age 58 or so but was on medications which destroyed my immune system and suddenly I began getting spots on my arms & legs. These have scared my skin. I desperately need something for my arms & legs but would like to try before buying to make sure it will work. I’ve often had allergic reactions to creams. Would appreciate a sample of your product.

  5. Unlike your analysis/solutions listed in your article, my crepey skin condition is actually present on my stomach area and front inner thighs and not anywhere on my face or neck. I’m 64 years old, a life-long runner, and am in excellent physical condition (muscle tone, body fat and weight) and as you might suspect am quite upset that I would have crepey skin given my physical condition. Since this is in a broad area, as opposed to the eyes and neck, I would need a cream that comes in a larger package and addresses the areas described. Please advise…

  6. I want to find a product that will soften crepiness under the eyes.

I was ok with fine wrinkles since it’s a part of the aging process but all of a sudden it seemed that my skin just gave up. Now my eyelids, undereye area, cheeks, and neck have gotten crepey. I feel like an old deflated balloon. I have been sampling various moisturizers and foundations that would minimize the crepiness with no luck.   26. Dr. Perricone;
I am extremely depressed over recent changes in my body. I lost weight several years ago through working out and have always been a sun worshipper in my younger years. Until three years ago everyone thought (my DR. included) that I looked like I was 15 years younger than my actual age. Now as I approach my 60th Birthday in one month…..,I suddenly have developed crepey skin on my inside upper arms and the tops of my thighs. I love the outdoors and my husband is looking forward to an active retirement in a sunny location. Will I suddenly be the the old lady covered head to toe in clothing as we hike, bike and enjoy the outdoors? HELP! I eat right, exercise, sleep and drink tons of water. I have been on replacement hormones and thyroid medicine for past year through a specialist. I’m losing this battle…….
I hope you”ll consider me for your test group.
