3 Foods to Leave Out of Your Perricone Diet

If you’ve begun following the anti-inflammatory Perricone diet, you certainly know which foods to include in your diet for a healthy body and skin. But for healthy weight loss, it’s also important to leave some foods out.

Don’t worry. There’s no need to starve, and there’s plenty of healthy options to replace these 3 foods you should avoid.

Sugar

If you’re hoping to lose 5 or 10 lbs. fast, it’s important to eliminate foods that encourage the storage of body fat. Foods that cause sharp rises in blood sugar are the culprits, since they result in the pancreas’s release of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that leads sugars to the body’s cells. A high amount of insulin not only makes your body store fat, but it also make you crave more of the foods you should be avoiding.

One such food that raises blood sugar is, unsurprisingly, sugar.

The Perricone diet recommends avoid sugar and high-glycemic carbs, like pastries, because they not only inevitably increase body weight, but also trigger cellular inflammation in all organs, including the skin. The Perricone diet is anti-inflammatory to avoid this inflammation since it may lead to wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of aging.

Substitute bad sugars with sweet fruits like kiwi, peaches, pears, plums, and cantaloupe.



Sweetened Yogurt

Yogurt? Isn’t that supposed to be good for you?

Indeed, yogurt is a great weight loss food. But when sugars and fruits are added into the equation, they can impair the survival of the cultures that make yogurt so worthwhile in the first place. Plus, they add unnecessary calories.

Instead, try unsweetened yogurt and add your own fresh fruit like blueberries to it.



Corn and Rice Cakes

Although corn and rice cakes are low in calories, they are high-glycemic foods, which spikes blood sugar and insulin levels. This puts a lock on body fat.

What are high-glycemic foods? Any carbohydrate has a certain level and is ranked on a scale from low to high. The lower the glycemic “index” the better, because high-glycemic carbs break down quickly during your body’s digestion process. This is a problem since this fast breakdown results in an immediate effect on blood sugar levels.

Instead of high-glycemic carbs like corn and rice cakes, turn to those lower on the glycemic index. Some examples include breads with wholegrains, Basmati or Doongara rice, and certain fruits and vegetables, like the fruits listed above. Best bets for vegetables low on the glycemic index are spinach, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, leafy greens, and most nonstarchy vegetables. By incorporating fruits and vegetables, you’ll also be getting plenty of antioxidants to protect your skin and body.

I have extremely sensitive skin, it flares up in a blotchy red rash if I wash my face with anything other than water, I have been reading The Perricone plan, and how I should wash my face with more than water but I have tried every face wash product under the sun and they all cause a flare up. I would love to become a tester for Perricone products, If they worked for my skin it would be a miracle.

  7. I am a 55 year old woman who looks at least 10 years younger (or so I am told. In the last 10 years I have used numerous products to keep my skin young. I have given up the sun worship and have modified my diet. As usual I always give up all sweets and any diet pop for the season of lent. And as always fall back into my old ways after lent is over. I am looking for a way to keep going (motivation) after lent is over to keep mt skin and health better by keeping to good habits. If I am seeing positive results from your products and advice I feel that it will be alot easier to stay with good habits.
